Marks carried by coins minted in India

In India, Indian coins are minted through SPMCIL mints located in Kolkata, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Noida. Every mint mints a unique symbol to identify the origin of the coin.

1. Kolkata Mint:

·          Established - 1757

·          Mint mark - No mint mark

2. Mumbai Mint:

·          Established - 1829

·          Mint marks

Ø  Diamond Shape - Normal issues

Ø  B - stands for Bombay (till 1995 on proof coins)

Ø  M - stands for Mumbai (after 1995 on proof coins)

Ø  U - Stands for uncirculated special coins.

3. Noida Mint:

·          Established - 1988

·          Mint mark - rounded dot

4. Hyderabad Mint:

·          Established - 17th Century

·          Mint marks

Ø  Split Diamond - between 1953 & 1960

Ø  Dot in a Diamond - between 1960 & 1968

Ø  Five pointed star - since 1968. (In the center below year number)

Under The Coinage Act, 1906, the Government of India is charged with the production and supply of coins to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The RBI places an annual indent for this purpose and the Government of India draws up the production program for the India Government Mints on the basis of the indent.

Besides minting coins, the mints at Mumbai, Kolkata and Hyderabad also make coin blanks. Hyderabad, Mumbai and Kolkata mints have gold assaying facilities and the Mumbai mint produces standardised weights and measures. Mumbai Mint has a state-of-the-art gold refining facility up to 999.9. Hyderabad Mint has electrolytic silver refining`g facility up to 999.9.

Commemorative coins are made at Mumbai and Kolkata. Kolkata and Hyderabad have facilities for making medallions, too. The Noida mint was the first in the country to mint coins of stainless steel.

ഇന്ത്യയിൽ അടിച്ചിറക്കിയ നാണയങ്ങളിലെ മിന്റ് മാർക്കുകൾ

ഇന്ത്യൻ നാണയങ്ങൾ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ അടിച്ചിറക്കുന്നത് (Minting) കൽക്കട്ട, മൂംബൈ, ഹൈദരാബാദ്, നോയിഡ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിലെ SPMCIL (Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited) മിന്റുകളിലാണ്. ഓരോ നാണയവും അടിച്ചിറക്കുന്നത് എവിടെയാണെന്ന് സൂചിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനു ഓരോ നാണയങ്ങളിലും പ്രതേകം ചിഹ്നങ്ങൾ രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. 1) കൽക്കട്ട മിന്റ്( Kolkatta Mint):

• സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്  : 1757 
• മിന്റ് മാർക്ക് : ഇല്ല 

2) മൂംബൈ മിന്റ്  (Mumbai Mint):

• സ്ഥാപിച്ചത് : 1829 
• മിന്റ് മാർക്കുകൾ : 

 ✔ Diamond  ചിഹ്നം -  Normal issues.

✔ B - 'Bombay' എന്ന പദത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യാക്ഷരം (1995 വരെ ഇഷ്യൂ ചെയ്ത  Proof നാണയങ്ങളിലെ ചിഹ്നം)

✔ M - 'Mumbai' എന്ന പദത്തിന്റെ ആദ്യാക്ഷരം (1995 -നു ശേഷം ഇഷ്യൂ ചെയ്ത  Proof നാണയങ്ങളിലെ ചിഹ്നം)

✔ U - Circulate ചെയ്യപ്പെടാത്ത പ്രത്യേക നാണയങ്ങളിലെ ചിഹ്നം.

3) നോയിഡ മിന്റ് (Noida Mint):

• സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്  : 1988 
• മിന്റ് മാർക്ക് : 

✔ വൃത്താകൃതിയിലുള്ള പുള്ളി (Rounded dot)

4) ഹൈദരാബാദ് മിന്റ് (Hyderabad Mint):

• സ്ഥാപിച്ചത്  : 17-ആം നൂറ്റാണ്ടിൽ 
• മിന്റ് മാർക്കുകൾ :  

✔ നെടുകെ പിളർന്ന (Split) Diamond  ചിഹ്നം - (1953 മുതൽ 1960 വരെ അടിച്ചിറക്കിയ നാണയങ്ങളിലെ ചിഹ്നം)

✔ ചെറുപുള്ളി(Dot)യോട് കൂടിയ  Diamond ചിഹ്നം - 1960 മുതൽ 1968 വരെ അടിച്ചിറക്കിയ നാണയങ്ങളിലെ ചിഹ്നം)

✔ അഞ്ചു ഭുജങ്ങളുള്ള നക്ഷത്രം - 1968 മുതൽ അടിച്ചിറക്കിയ നാണയങ്ങളിലെ ചിഹ്നം). ഈ ചിഹ്നം നാണയത്തിൽ   വർഷം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തിയതിന്  താഴെ മദ്ധ്യഭാഗത്ത് അടയാളപ്പെടുത്തിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
